Match Report:

Yeovil Town ended their 2019-20 pre-season campaign with a 2-1 victory over Bristol City Under-23s on Saturday afternoon. The match was won in the first half when Rhys Murphy bagged his sixth goal during the summer, and that was added to just before the break when Tom Bradbury scored his second since arriving. City's oldest player on the pitch Matty Taylor reduced the arrears as City had an improved second half period, but the home side held on for the win, to put the main eleven in good shape going into the National League opener against Barnet next weekend.

The Glovers went into the match making two changes to their starting eleven, with both involving trialists. Myles Hippolyte was moved up the flank to be used as a striker alongside Rhys Murphy, which allowed a new trialist to come in as a wing-back. Tucked in behind the strikers was former Glover Lawson D'Ath, who has been on trial at Swindon Town during July and was making his first appearance of the summer during the friendlies.

Yeovil Town took the lead midway through the first half when a Matt Worthington corner was glanced home by Rhys Murphy, allowing the former Chelmsford City striker the chance to bag his sixth goal in pre-season and hopefully continuing the impressive strike rate he had in Essex last season. They extended their lead further from another corner kick, when Myles Hippolyte swung in a set piece that took a few deflections before Tom Bradbury fired home through the crowded goalmouth for a 2-0 lead.

Bristol City hit back ten minutes into the second half. After having a goal chalked off for offside just three minutes previously, Matty Taylor got a simple ball over the top which he latched onto, finishing past Stuart Nelson into the bottom corner for a 2-1 scoreline. At that point, City could have gone on and equalised, with Taylor having a shot cleared off the line by Tom Bradbury, whilst Tyreeq Bakinson's long range attempt hit the crossbar before going out for a goal kick. But Yeovil held on and almost grabbed a third on the break when Ryan Seager ran through but put his shot wide of the goalpost from just inside the box. For the second match running, Yeovil Town used minimal substitutions, clearly trying to create a 'matchday' environment with these final couple of friendly games.
