Hereford United 1-2 Yeovil Town
Yeovil Goals: Rhys Murphy (43), Bradley Ash (90)
Yeovil Town gained a 2-1 victory over National League North side Hereford on Friday night, thanks to a last minute goal from trialist Bradley Ash. In a very competitive friendly match, it took until the 90th minute before the game was settled, in a game played at the Sports Ground, Bideford where the Bulls are staying for an extended weekend as part of a pre-season training camp.
The Glovers went into the match naming ten professional contracted players along with one trialist, with former St Albans City striker David Moyo trying his luck during pre-season. Manager Darren Sarll continued with the 3-4-1-2 formation he had chosen in the opening friendly, although on this occasion Carl Dickinson was moved into defence, whilst Albi Skendi slotted into midfield, with Daniel Ojo getting his first start.
In a first period full of fierce tackles, it took a defensive error to open up the scoring. Kyle Finn played the ball back to Martin Riley but the Bulls player slipped, allowing Craig Alcock the chance to intercept. He threaded the ball through to Rhys Murphy, who turned and fired home a 43rd minute opening goal that gave the Glovers the lead at the break.
Midfielder Alex John had already replaced Matt Worthington after half an hour, and half time saw Gabriel Rogers step in for Ryan Seager, with both representing like-for-like swaps. But six minutes into the second period, Hereford drew level when a Rhys Davies ball over the top found Tommy O'Sullivan in free space, who then finished past Stuart Nelson for a 1-1 scoreline.
Yeovil made seven substitutions just past the hour mark, which meant that only Stuart Nelson and Daniel Ojo lasted the full 90 minutes on the night. Despite Hereford having second half chances through Kyle Finn and Tommy O'Sullivan it was the Glovers who were to win the match. A through ball found Bradley Ash - one of Yeovil's second half trialists - on the edge of the box, and he beat two markers before drilling a low shot into the corner of the net for a 2-1 victory and to give the club their second win in a row during pre-season.
