Match Report:

The Glovers went into the match making six changes to their starting line-up compared to the team that travelled to Morecambe. With the fixture being a dead rubber game for both sides, ever presents Nathan Baxter and Carl Dickinson were given the night off, with Stuart Nelson getting his first appearance of the season, whilst there was a debut for Academy left-back Daniel Ojo. Elsewhere Enes Mahmutovic, Alefe Santos, Omari Patrick and Alex Pattison all got starts in the side, with the bench full of the more regular starters.

They opened up the scoring 11 minutes into the match, shortly after Shaun Donnellan had an attempt saved from a corner. From the second set piece, Alefe Santos crossed into the box, and Donnellan outmuscled his West Ham marker to force the ball over the line from close range for a 1-0 lead.

West Ham responded as Jahmal Hector-Ingram cut in from the flank, with his shot getting a deflection, which required Stuart Nelson to stick out an arm and make a reflex save. The flight of the ball was proving difficult for both teams to track during the evening, with heavy rain and wind, particularly during the first half, which ultimately benefitted Yeovil more as they had the conditions with them during the first period.

They extended their lead early in the second half, when Olufela Olmola's cross into the box was turned into the back of his own net by West Ham's Tunji Akinola for a 2-0 lead, with the defender being left with his head in his hands at the unfortunate error. Still the Hammers youngsters, which included a couple of 16 year olds on their teamsheet, responded well, with Daniel Kemp bursting past Daniel Ojo, leaving Stuart Nelson having to make a fingertip save for a corner.

Yeovil scored their third goal of the evening just past the hour mark after Daniel Ojo had burst forward up field and won himself a free kick 25 yards away from goal. As per recent matches, there was little doubt over who was going to take the free kick. Up stepped Tom James and he provided a dipping swerving set piece that went straight past Nathan Trott for a 3-0 advantage.

The one downside of the evening came when Olufela Olomola had to come off with 17 minutes remaining, with what looked like a hamstring problem. By then Gabriel Rogers had been introduced as a substitute for his longest bit of first team football, whilst Wes McDonald became Olomola's replacement. The final set of players on the pitch increased the scoreline with seven minutes remaining, as Middlesbrough loanee Enes Mahmutovic tapped home an Alefe Santos free kick, for a 4-0 victory that may not have meant anything in terms of the competitive aspect of the competition, but at least allowed the Glovers to end their interest in the competition on a relative high.
