Match Report:

Yeovil Town crashed to a 4-1 defeat against Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium this afternoon. In a match that saw former Glovers striker Andy Williams grab a hat-trick, the Glovers were in problems just 27 seconds into the match when he opened the scoring in the first move of the game. Two quickfire goals from James Coppinger and Ryan Hedges swung the game one way and then the other, but a red card for Bevis Mugabi after he picked up two bookings meant that the home side got the upper hand again, and they capitalised with two late Williams goals to give him the match ball and slide Yeovil down into 21st place.

The Glovers went into the match naming an unchanged side from the team that started against Everton on Tuesday night. However, two new signings and one international clearance meant that they could bolster their substitutes bench with Izale McLeod, Ben Whitfield and Kyle Copp all able to land on the teamsheet. Ollie Bassett was the only fit player to miss out, with all other absentees still injured with Ryan Dickson, Francois Zoko, Alex Lacey, Josh Ezewele and Darren Ward all missing. Former Glover Craig Alcock was also absent for the opposition with an ankle injury, but a second player in Andy Williams started up front with John Marquis as Donny's pair of strikers.

Always concentrate from the start of the match, they say. That clearly hadn't been heeded, as Doncaster took kick-off and within a matter of seconds had forced a corner as Nathan Smith was forced to clear. In came the corner kick from James Coppinger, defender Andy Butler headed the ball across the area, and Andy Williams pounced, just 27 seconds into the match. 1-0 and numerous people had barely sat down in their seats.

That early goal seemed to galvanise Doncaster as they threaten to score a couple of times directly after that opener. Andy Williams fed John Marquis, but his shot was saved by Artur Krysiak. Then Andy Butler put a header wide from a James Coppinger free kick. Krysiak had to be alert as he saved again from Marquis, after a Bevis Mugabi clearance had been intercepted by Williams, setting his strike partner free.

Yeovil struggled badly to get into the game until around the half hour mark. Although their approach play was decent enough, putting players into a shooting position was proving difficult, but they did at least finish the half in a more composed fashion, as Tom Eaves got in the club's first shot of the game, before putting a header wide. A Matt Butcher attempt then went well over the bar, but at least in an environment that ended the half with the Glovers giving Doncaster something more serious to think about. A Ryan Hedges shot from the edge of the box was smothered by home keeper Marko Marosi, before another Eaves effort on the angle forced Marosi to block at his near post. Some of these chances weren't necessarily compelling, but they at least showed some promise from the slow start.

Ten minutes into the second period though, Doncaster forged further ahead. They'd already reestablished their authority when Artur Krysiak had to make a flying save from a John Marquis header where he picked out a James Coppinger cross. However, when Donny won a free kick following a foul by Kevin Dawson, a flowing move set up Tommy Rowe and his cross into the box found Coppinger whose 15 yard finish was confidently taken. 2-0 down.

Izale McLeod was immediately introduced as a substitute for the Glovers, replacing Tom Eaves, and although he didn't have a lot to do with what followed 30 seconds after he got onto the pitch, Yeovil immediately pulled a goal back. A defensive blunder by Doncaster's Matty Blair saw his attempt at a back header let Ryan Hedges grab possession, and he moved confidently through, finishing well to give the Glovers a goal back at 2-1 and a foothold back in the game which for 60 seconds it looked as though they'd lost.

Then came two of the more significant moments of the game that didn't involve goals. Separated by ten minutes, Bevis Mugabi was booked for being involved in the aftermath of a spot of handbags on the pitch which started when James Coppinger went in late on the defender. Initially play seemed to go on, but then a bit of push'n'shoving broke out that saw both players booked, with many of Donny's players having spent much of the game trying to provoke incidents like this or influene rookie referee Michael Salisbury, who didn't always have a grip on the situation. Then in the 76th minute, Andy Williams managed to get goal side of Mugabi in a Doncaster attack, and the former Southampton academy defender hauled him back. In this case, it probably was a booking, and with the first yellow already produced, Mugabi was off.

The defence reorganised itself, with Kevin Dawson dropping into the right-back role, as Liam Shephard switched cross to the other side. Yeovil did have a mini-flurry, as the ten men battled for an equaliser, with Izale McLeod and Matt Butcher putting chances wide. But in the final ten minutes, Doncaster began to pick some wide open spaces, and with eight minutes left, Andy Williams got his second. Set up by James Coppinger, the pass into the box gave him a simple ten yard finish against a stretched Yeovil defence. Then in the 90th minute, Andy Williams picked up the match ball to take home with him as he headed home at the near post for a 4-1 scoreline and a rather disappointing result. The size of the defeat will doubtless lie in the man disadvantage the Glovers had in the closing stages. However, defensively they experienced problems even with eleven men on the pitch, with the home side deserving their win from that point of view.
