Match Report:

Yeovil Town went down to their second consecutive 0-1 defeat this afternoon, after Morecambe went top of League Two thanks to their away victory. The Shrimps got all three points when Kevin Ellison converted a Lee Molyneux pass ten minutes into the second half, leaving the Glovers kicking themselves for a wasteful first half period in which they could have easily bagged a couple of goals. Visiting keeper Barry Roche was in particularly good form, keeping out some of the best Yeovil efforts that included shots from Matt Dolan and Tahvon Campbell, but for the second match running a single goal cost them, ending the day in 16th place.

The Glovers went into the match naming an unchanged side from that which lost 1-0 to Mansfield Town in midweek - a touch surprising given that Ryan Dickson and Nathan Smith both came off with injuries. On the bench, Alex Lacey had to drop out entirely with a broken arm that will keep him out for six to eight weeks. Morecambe's own preparations were not helped for the match after Ryan Edwards pulled up during the warm-ups meaning that they had to adjust their teamsheet with Alex Kenyon unexpectedly finding he was their starting centre-back. Former Glover Michael Rose played as a holding midfielder for Morecambe, slightly advanced from his more traditional left-back role.

The first half opened with both sides having a ludicrous number of chances at each end, as the game became attackers vs attackers, yet without the crucial goal that would have set the game up. Alex Lawless produced a long range effort that clipped the top of the crossbar as it went over. But at the other end, as both defences struggled to deal with the early attempts, Jack Dunn's shot was parried by Artur Krysiak, with Kevin Ellison hitting the post on the rebound. Kevin Dawson and Tom Eaves then had a pair of chances each, with Eaves having one shot deflected for a corner, and then Barry Roche saving his second shot over the bar.

As the half wore on though, the chances began to dry out at both ends, with a few injuries and stoppages seeing the tempo die down a touch. Roche saved again from a Ryan Hedges effort and the feeling was that by half time the Glovers could have been a goal or two up. That made matters rather frustrating when ten minutes into the second half Morecambe took the lead. They counter-attacked well after substitute Lee Molyneux had threaded a pass through to Kevin Ellison and the Morecambe striker confidently struck the ball home to give his team the lead.

Inevitably, with the away side a goal up, they were going to slow the game down and put players behind the ball, but there were times that Yeovil didn't really help themselves, with stray passes often seeing moves break down just at the vital point. A double substitution did briefly shake things up with Francois Zoko and Tahvon Campbell coming on to replace Otis Khan and Ryan Hedges, and Campbell in particularly looked threatening - one free kick he took deflected off the wall for a corner. But then things died down again, with the late introduction of Omar Sowunmi for Ryan Dickson producing a bit of a case of 'throwing the kitchen sink' at the situation as they finished with four players up front.

Barry Roche had the last word, saving efforts from Tahvon Campbell and a Matt Dolan free kick - if it were possible to award Man of the Matches to opposition players, then he would have been a contender, even if Bevis Mugabi got the nod as one of the more solid performers on the day. The end result was a shut-out, and a slightly disappointing slide down to 16th in the table. For now though, all eyes will go towards Goodison Park, and a bit of Tuesday night escapism against Premier League Everton.
