Match Report:

Yeovil Town's 2015-16 season remains without a point, after a single goal sent them to defeat at a rain-soaked Bootham Crescent tonight. A strike through a crowded box from former Glover James Berrett just past the hour mark was enough to seal defeat, with the midfielder getting a spot of revenge on a club that decided to let him go over the summer. Yeovil largely huffed and puffed throughout the evening, but never really looked fluent on a greasy surface at any stage during the match.

The Glovers went into the match making one change to the starting line-up with a formation change on top of that. AFC Bournemouth midfielder Josh Wakefield was unveiled to cover for the suspended Matthew Dolan and he came in as a like-for-like swap. However, there was also a formation change, with the 5-3-2/3-5-2 wing-backs line-up being used to match up with York's own formation, and also to represent the tactics Yeovil had used during the second half of their match against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

On a slippery pitch, and in conditions that looked and felt more like a winter's night, the falling rain which got steadily harder throughout the evening created a game that lacked quality throughout, with both sides struggling to find their feet. York were the team to create a little more during the first period, even if many of their attempts went wide of the target - James Berrett and Ben Godfrey were two such players hitting from distance but not with accuracy.

Artur Krysiak was first brought into serious action 40 minutes into the match when some indecisive defending set up Stephane Zubar deep inside the penalty box, but Artur Krysiak blocked the ball brilliantly to stop the fiercely hit shot. Krysiak then parried Russell Penn's drive from the edge of the box for a corner to ensure the game was goalless at the break.

It was not a pretty first half by any stretch of the imagination but at least Yeovil's defending was keeping York largely at bay. The biggest problem was their lack of goal threat and fluency up front. It took 54 minutes of the game for them to have their first shot of note, as Harry Cornick got inside the box and fired at Scott Flinders' near post, only to find the ball beaten away.

York's goal when it came, carried a massive piece of fortune to it. James Berrett, who spent the whole of last season on Yeovil's books, scoring just one goal, managed to ensure he doubled last season's tally with his second goal for York - a 63rd minute drive from 20 yards out that took a massive deflection on its way through, giving Krysiak no chance whatsoever.

The home side had further chances to kill the game in the closing stages, but at that point they seemed to get a five minute attack of nerves, as Yeovil enjoyed a brief passage of pressure, but one in which it felt far too huff'n'puff to be truly effective. Omar Sowunmi became the latest Yeovil Town defender over the years to be used as a late substitute employed up front. Wes Fogden and debut boy Josh Wakefield could have produced a late equaliser, but in all honesty, the quality wasn't there tonight to have deserved such an outcome. Whilst it still is early days, and there is plenty of time for Paul Sturrock to reshape his squad, it's unlikely that performances like tonight are what he is hoping to achieve this season.
