Yeovil Town and Blackburn Rovers cancelled each other out this afternoon in a goalless draw that really did nothing to help each other sides fortunes at opposite ends of the Championship table. In a game in which both sides struggled to carve out meaningful chances, the best attempt came just four minutes into the match when Jason Lowe's shot from the edge of the box seemed to catch Marek Stech by surprise as the keeper watched it smack off his right hand post and back out again without making a move for it.
Whilst Blackburn did force Stech into a couple of relatively comfortable saves, Yeovil failed to even get a shot on target to worry Paul Robinson, with Joe Ralls shooting into the advertising hoardings after he was set up by James Hayter, whilst Liam Davis sliced a shot wide after he had been teed up by Tom Lawrence.
Blackburn were rather wasteful with a couple of free headers they got during the game, with Grant Hanley and Jordan Rhodes both having good opportunities inside the box. But the game had a bit of a laboured end-of-season feel to it, emphasised by a group of Blackburn fans deciding midway through the second half to get up and launch a conga whilst dressed in what looked like retro sports kit (or maybe that's the fashion in Lancashire in the year 2014).
The final five or ten minutes did produce a degree of urgency from both sides as they pressurised for all three points, but all in all, a goalless scoreline probably accurately summed up a game in which neither side really got going. With Charlton also drawing 0-0, that still leaves Yeovil five points from safety, but with only three matches remaining they need to win at least two games to even get above Charlton or Blackburn. And that rather summed up today - draws are not really enough.
