Match Report:

Yeovil Town kept their hopes of avoiding relegation alive, as they beat fellow strugglers Blackpool 2-1 at Bloomfield Road. Goals from James Hayter and Manchester United loanee Tom Lawrence set them on their way, and also Blackpool pulled one back to create some late scares, this time the Glovers held on for all three points, to pull them back within three points of Charlton Athletic - their Tuesday night opponents - who lost at home to Reading.

After a very slow start Yeovil got the break they needed when Tony McMahon handballed a corner forced by Tom Lawrence, and with James Hayter this time on the field of play, and Ishmael Miller sent back to Nottingham Forest, there was very little doubt who was going take the spot kick - duly converted into the bottom corner. The goal allowed the visitors the chance to find their feet, with a restless home crowd frequently heckling their own players, leading to one incident when a Blackpool player got into a slanging match with his own fans.

Blackpool started to force their way back into the match just before the half time break, and a succession of three early second half substitutions allowed them to change formation and personnel. David Goodwillie was particularly guilty of missing a number of Blackpool chances, but instead it was Yeovil who scored the next goal - somewhat against the run of second half play. Luke Ayling's cross into the box was met by Tom Lawrence and he produced a good finish from inside the box to double Yeovil's lead.

That should have given Yeovil the buffer to see the game out but Elliot Grandin's superb long range strike four minutes later set the nerves jangling as he fired home from 25 yards out. On came Ruben Palazuelos as a holding midfielder to shore things up, whilst the grit of Kevin Dawson was also added as Yeovil sacrificed their wide men to deploy four central midfielders, with Lawrence dropping deeper in the closing stages.

This time - unlike Wigan, unlike Leicester - there was no late drama and the Glovers saw out the three minutes worth of injury time to keep their season alive. Tuesday night at The Valley presents them with a virtual cup final against Charlton Athletic, and gives proof that whilst matters are still out of their own hands, and they still lie bottom of the table, the trap door has not opened up on them just yet.
