Yeovil Town threw away two points this afternoon as Bolton Wanderers came back from two goals down at Huish Park to snatch a 2-2 draw, despite the visitors being down to ten men. Following a slow start, they took the game by the scruff of the neck, with Kevin Dawson's cross from the right being superbly converted by Ishmael Miller for the 10th goal he has scored since arriving on loan from Nottingham Forest at the tail end of November.
The Glovers doubled their lead three minutes before the break, with Kieffer Moore and Tom Lawrence combining to set up Kevin Dawson, whose shot from 20 yards out was well struck across Adam Bogdan's goal. In between the Glovers had their best spell of the match, looking good for further goals, but weren't able to keep up that domination during the second period.
Bolton came out looking much sharper in the second period and Lukas Jutkiewicz pulled a goal back eight minutes after the break - getting room on the edge of the box to twist and turn and fire a low shot into the net. That set the feel for the second period - Yeovil defending with men behind the ball and soaking up Bolton's pressure, whilst trying to catch them on the break.
The Glovers though looked to be on their way to victory when Ishmael Miller released Kevin Dawson who was taken down by Alex Baptiste whilst clean through on goal. Referee Darren Deadman dithered badly as his linesman signalled for the penalty, but eventually after consultation decided not to overrule his assistant, pointed to the spot and red carded Baptiste for the professional foul. Again, further delays appeared to stop Ishmael Miller from taking the spot kick, and when he stepped up, he struck the right hand post, with the ball pinging out for a goal kick - his second penalty miss of the season.
Bolton took advantage of that disappointment almost instantly, despite being a man light. Moving their way swiftly up to the other end of the park, Jay Spearing's free kick was headed home by Zat Knight, with goalkeeper Marek Stech having overcommitted himself and the Glovers defence perhaps still reeling from that penalty miss. A deflated crowd and team couldn't produce further drama during the seven minutes that followed and the end result was merely a point when there was little doubt that it should have been all three. With Barnsley, Millwall and Charlton all losing, the Glovers are a point closer to safety, but it could have - and should have - been much much more.
