Yeovil Town picked up three excellent points this afternoon, as they ended Sheffield Wednesday's three month unbeaten run on the road, with a 2-0 win. The Owls had been undefeated on their travels since new boss Stuart Gray came on on December 1st, but were sunk by two Ishmael Miller goals that give the Nottingham Forest loanee a tally of seven Championship goals in just 13 appearances for the club.
Despite not looking 100 percent fit following his hamstring injury a fortnight ago, he was in the right place at the right time to fire home from inside the box, after a Luke Ayling cross into the box had ricocheted inside the box, with Miller striking the ball well to put Yeovil 1-0 up four minutes before the break, and a half time lead in a half where the Owls had attempted to soak up pressure and hit the home side on the break.
Then six minutes into the second half, Miller proved that he has a decent left foot as well, with the striker cutting inside his marker and rifling home a superb shot from outside the box to put Yeovil 2-0 up. That set the scene for Wednesday to make a series of substitutions and formation changes, including former Glovers loanee Jermaine Johnson along with Benik Afobe and Atdhe Nuhie.
But the Owls struggled to penetrate Yeovil's back line, only managing one shot on target during the entire 90 minutes. Their cause wasn't helped by Sam Hutchinson's ill-disciplined finale - picking up two yellow cards in the final five minutes, with the clattering of Glovers substitute Adam Morgan giving referee Darren Sheldrake little option but to reduce Wednesday to ten men. That allowed the five minutes worth of injury time to be completed without any serious pressure. The only down side was that with Millwall, Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers all winning, there wasn't quite the closing of the gap that supporters might have hoped for. But if the Glovers continue with their current five game unbeaten run, then eventually they will feel they can get above that dotted line.
