Yeovil Town went down to a 1-2 home defeat against Leeds United at Huish Park today, in a game dominated by the weather conditions. During a first half in which the Glovers had the advantage of a significant end-to-end wind, they went ahead just past the half hour mark when Ishmael Miller's excellent header from a John Lundstram corner divided the two teams. They should have been further ahead when Sam Byram brought down Kevin Dawson in the box two minutes before the break, but this time Miller's goal touch deserted him, sending his penalty over the crossbar.
In the second half, and now having to defend against the wind, Yeovil got off to a horrible start, with just 29 seconds on the clock. A poor Marek Stech free kick hung in the wind, and the Glovers back four were not alert enough to the presence of Ross McCormack who picked up the loose ball, cut onto his right foot and then curled a superb effort into the top corner for the equaliser.
Stech's day got decidedly worse after the hour mark when Jimmy Kebe won a free kick 35-40 yards out on the flank. In normal conditions Stephen Warnock's free kick into the box wouldn't have caused any danger, but the wind wickedly curled the ball, then curled it some more, leaving Marek Stech coming off his line and then back-pedalling as he saw the ball sail over his head to put Leeds 2-1 up. There was no way back for the Glovers as they suffered in the second half conditions and struggled to get their way back into the game despite some belated second half pressure when substitutions saw them finish the game with four forwards on the pitch.
