Yeovil Town succumbed to a poor defeat this afternoon, as a dominant AFC Bournemouth side easily picked up all three points in a 3-0 scoreline. The first half may have been goalless, but the Glovers had to thank Marek Stech for several strong saves, as well as the officials disallowing Elliott Ward's strike just before the break for a push inside the box.
The second period served up no better fare, and the Glovers were quickly dismantled through two goals from Matt Ritchie. The former Swindon winger took advantage of a Ryan Fraser shot that was palmed onto the post by Marek Stech, then came straight back out to him with the keeper still on the floor. Then Ritchie got a bit of luck as his shot at Stech came off Shane Duffy and into the back of the net seven minutes later, with the Cherries player claiming the goal.
The match was wrapped up shortly after Yeovil had made a triple substitution that saw Ed Upson take up the captaincy and Kevin Dawson take on a right-back slot as manager Gary Johnson gambled by reshuffling his side. But Yeovil's play throughout the match was summed up as Eunan O'Kane was allowed to dance his way through the Glovers midfield and fire home for the third and final goal, with the final score accurately describing the gulf between the two sides on what was a fairly miserable day. The only good news was that only Charlton Athletic won of the sides near the bottom, with Sheffield Wednesday picking up a point, meaning only minimal damage done to the league table.
