Yeovil Town and Barnsley scrapped out a manic 1-1 draw at Oakwell in a game that could have seen a far higher scoreline were it not for good goalkeeping, bad shooting, and the width of the goalframe. An early Joel Grant goal set the pattern of the game, as the home side's defensive indecision allowed Grant the opportunity to nip through and poke the ball home to give the Glovers the lead. Joe Edwards could have put Yeovil further ahead when his shot hit the inside of the post and rolled across the goalmouth, needing only a touch to push it over the line.
But Barnsley got themselves back into it on 34 minutes, when Jamie McAllister was judged to have fouled Tomasz Cywka inside the box, and Marcus Tudgay converted from the penalty spot. The home side enjoyed their best spell of the game following that, and at the start of the second period, but the introduction of Kevin Dawson as a substitute began to inject energy into a game that finished in an end-to-end encounter.
Jason Scotland skimmed the crossbar, and the same player forced Chris Dunn into a terrific save during the second period - one of numerous blocks the keeper made during the match. Ishmael Miller got the ball in the back of the net, only for referee Lee Probert to rule it out for handball - overall the Premier League referee had a messy game, but seemed to get that one right. Yeovil could have easily won it were it not for James Hayter putting a close range header over the bar, but both sides had to settle for a point - which sees Yeovil drop a place in the table, even though it leaves them a point closer to safety.
