14 July 2019 : Gray On Trial With Chairboys Following Glovers Release
Former Yeovil Town midfielder Jake Gray is on trial with League One side Wycombe Wanderers. The 23 year old was pictured as part of their squad that travelled to Barnet on Saturday, drawing 1-1 at the Hive Stadium. There are also less certain reports that defender Bevis Mugabi may have been one of Wycombe's second half trialists during that match - we've yet to see any photos of Wycombe's No.23 in that part of the game that would confirm his involvement.

Gray's presence in the Wycombe side isn't a huge surprise. He is an Aylesbury-born player, who was originally part of Wycombe's Academy system, leaving them in 2012 to sign for Crystal Palace. He was one of nine players released by Yeovil Town at the end of the 2018-19 season, and so stands as a free agent.

Whilst Gray was easily recognised, Wycombe also used a number of second half trialists, one of which is believed by their fans to be Mugabi. The former Southampton defender is also a free agent, but has spent most of the summer playing for Uganda in the 2019 AFCON Finals. As yet, there are no pictures of him in action that can verify his identity.

Mugabi ended up playing a full 90 minutes in three out of Uganda's four AFCON matches, winning caps against DR Congo, Zimbabwe and Senegal as the Cranes reached the last sixteen, in doing so winning their first AFCON Finals match for 41 years. That's taken him to seven Ugandan caps, six of which were gained whilst he was on the books of Yeovil Town. His last match was on July 5th, which should have given him enough time to get back to England in search of a new club.

Wycombe have already signed up former Yeovil Town loanee Alex Pattison. The significant number of former Glovers players turning up at Adams Park would point to the influence of Rob Couhig, who is aiming to buy a shareholding in the Chairboys. With his nephew Pete Couhig joining him, and former Yeovil Town football advisor Mark Palmer also part of the contingent, it would point to Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth having been given a few contacts within the list of players released by Yeovil Town at the end of the 2018-19 season.
