15 March 2017 : Way Looking For Continuity Despite Fifteen Out Of Contract Players
Yeovil Town manager Darren Way has said that he wants to maintain 'continuity' within the club over the coming summer, despite having a large number of players out of contract at the end of the 2016-17 season. The Glovers will have to resolve the future of all bar three of their players, with only Artur Krysiak, Ryan Dickson and Omar Sowunmi having deals that go beyond the end of the season, with 15 players out of contract.

With eight of those players, Way does have some limited protection in that they are aged Under-24 at the time that their current deals run out, meaning that provided the club offer that player terms equal to their current deal, then any interested rival clubs would have to pay a compensation fee. Going into tonight's match with Barnet, Way implied that the ones that he would be seeking to keep beyond the end of the season would be those who had cemented regular slots in the side:

"Everyone is creating their own future at the football club. The majority of the players that have played know certainly from last year that I'm trying to keep continuity in the group. I've got to do everything that I can, and certainly the board have got to do everything that they can to support that."

Despite the club's current 18th placed position in the League Two table, and some recent poor form that was ended by Saturday's 3-1 win at Morecambe, Way repeated his claims from last week that the club was in a healthier position than it had been over the last three years, and that he believed the club was still building on that position:

"The club is in the best position that it's been in, for the last three years. It's got the high amount of goalscorers that we've had in the last three years, and it's the least amount of players that we've fielded throughout a season. So there's a lot of positives to take out of it. What we need now is that support to make sure that we continue to keep building and keep progressing as a football club."

The breakdown of this season's first team squad is as follows:

Out Of Contract (and over 24): Nathan Smith, Alex Lacey, Kevin Dawson, Alex Lawless, Tom Eaves, Francois Zoko, Darren Ward

Out Of Contract (and under 24): Bevis Mugabi, Matthew Dolan, Otis Khan, Jonny Maddison, Brandon Goodship, Joe Lea, Ollie Bassett, Tom James

Contract Expiring June 2018: Artur Krysiak, Ryan Dickson, Omar Sowunmi

Loan Players: Liam Shephard (Swansea City), Matt Butcher (AFC Bournemouth), Owain Jones (Swansea City), Ben Whitfield (AFC Bournemouth), Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro (Barnet), Shayon Harrison (Tottenham Hotspur), Kabongo Tshimanga (Milton Keynes)
